What's included
I clear every gutter and valley by hand, not with a blaster that just pushes mess into the downpipe. Leaves, liverwort, moss, seedlings and the odd tennis ball all come out. I bag it and take it away — you won't find a pile beside the hedge after I've been.
Every downpipe gets flushed and flow-tested. If it's blocked, I clear it there and then — it's part of the service, not an extra. I also run water along the gutter to check falls and joints, especially on internal gutter and Taylor fascia systems where a small belly or rust spot becomes a bedroom ceiling stain later.
Why internal gutters need attention
That "garden in the gutter" photo is an internal gutter over an eave — the kind that sits behind the fascia and relies on perfect falls. When debris holds moisture against the metal, you get corrosion, sitting water and leaks that don't show until the Gib is soft. Honest report, not a hard sell

Beyond the immediate clear, I record what the gutter tells you about the roof. A line of fine silt at the outlet suggests the fall is shallow and water has been sitting; a rust freckle at a joint suggests the coating is failing; a bow between brackets suggests a bracket has slipped. Each is cheaper to address when it is a note than when it is a leak. That is why the condition note is not an upsell — it is the reason people call me back for rentals and family homes alike.

Common questions about gutter cleaning
How long does a house take?
Most single-storey Christchurch homes take 45–90 minutes, double-storey a bit longer. Heavily neglected or grass-filled gutters can add time — I still quote up front and stick to it.
Do you waterblast?
No. I clear by hand and flush with water. Waterblasting pushes compacted leaves into downpipes and can drive water under flashings on internal gutters.
When should I book?
Autumn and after late-winter winds are busiest. If you can see growth in the gutter, don't wait for rain to remind you.
